Both Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and Intel (x86_64) Macs are supported. If you are not sure which you have, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. macOS 12 (Monterey) or later is required.

Will it run on my computer?

Disk
At least 40 GB free. An SSD is recommended; a hard disk (HDD) is 20 to 50 times slower.
Memory
4 GB or more works, 8 GB or more is comfortable. The app reads the free memory and adjusts by itself.
System
Windows 10 or later, macOS 12 or later, Linux (AppImage).
First catch-up
Usually a day or two on an SSD, and possibly weeks on a hard disk. You can use the app while it catches up; only payment confirmations show up late.
Antivirus
Antivirus programs such as V3, AlYac or nProtect should skip the data folder. Without that it gets much slower.
Mining
You need an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card. Built-in graphics in laptops and small PCs, and Macs, do not work. Weigh the electricity cost against the income first. The app works fine with just the node and no mining.

Already using PLAY X Raven?

Use “Check for updates” in your existing desktop app. RavenVault keeps the same application identity and data location. Keep a separate wallet backup before updating.

Before updating, check that wallet.dat appears in the backup contents. Version 0.4.1 rejects backups that omit a requested wallet and verifies the encrypted file before saving it. Opening it on another computer requires its backup password or backup key, which is different from wallet recovery words.

Desktop backups contain the wallet and shop records shown in the included-file list, not the entire app. Keep chat accounts and history, browser and PWA wallets and files, original IPFS media, and AI API keys separately.

Automatic restore targets the default wallet.dat file. Named wallets, multiple wallets, and a separate walletdir have not been verified; do not use this automatic restore for those configurations.

Direct computer-to-computer transfer is undergoing compatibility checks. Use an encrypted backup file on USB to restore on a new computer.

Your existing browser wallet stays at its original address. A new website address does not move browser storage.

Where should backups go?

The computer app creates a backup file: RavenVault.zip.pxlock in the RavenVault-Backup folder. It locks the file once more with the app’s own lock and deletes the unlocked copy.

Automatic backup looks for iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Nextcloud, pCloud, MEGA and Box folders, and USB drives, as places to keep it.

“Find backups” reads the backups in these folders and checks each one by its file fingerprint. It also finds backups under the old name, PLAYXRaven-Backup. Old backups are only read, never changed.

We have not yet tested this with iCloud Drive in actual use. Files marked “not downloaded” in iCloud start downloading when read. This may take a long time.

Put only the backup file locked by the app in cloud storage. The file alone cannot be opened; you also need its backup password or backup key. Write the backup password and your web or phone wallet’s recovery words on paper, and never keep them in cloud storage, photos or notes.

How does it work with Ravencoin Core?

The computer app runs the Ravencoin Core v4.8.0 node (ravend) unmodified. The wallet uses Core’s own wallet.dat.

Exporting and importing a wallet will be available from the new version (0.8.7); the version you can download today does not have it yet. The app exports to a locked .rvwallet file and imports it back. Importing a plain wallet.dat file from another Core wallet is not supported.

The web and phone wallets do not include Core.

On a phone?

Open the web app, then use your browser’s “Add to Home Screen” or “Install app”. Keep it open until offline preparation completes. Saved files and documents can then reopen without internet.

Installation details

Mac installers currently use an ad hoc signature. Apple Developer ID notarization has not been completed; macOS may require manual approval in Privacy & Security. Do not disable your system’s security settings.

Install and save files while connected. Blockchain confirmation, new marketplace listings and remote AI responses need a network connection. QR file exchange and saved documents can be used offline.
